Brown Comes To America

Welcome back!
After a month of handling the office of Prime Minister in the U.K., Gordon Brown seeks to cement the good will of the two countries toward each other. Folks at home were acting somewhat cooler to the U.S. during the last days of the Tony Blair administration due to their belief that Blair was giving in too much to President Bush, especially concerning the Iraq war.
Brown gave the usual type of quote to the press: “It is a relationship that is founded on our common values of liberty, opportunity and the dignity of the individual,” Brown said in a statement. “And because of the values we share, the relationship with the United States is not only strong, but can become stronger in the years ahead.”
Yada, yada. We know that you want us all to be singing buddies but here’s the thing….Tony Blair believed in what he and Pres. Bush were doing. The folks at home were not and gave him enormous grief over it. Hence Blair no longer being the P.M. Now, Brown comes to America to change the way we all look at each other because the same folks at home do not want the U.K. to be “yes men” to our President. Of course, Bush, too, is getting grief at home for the war in Iraq. And I figure that this guy is going to use that in their talks.
Oh yes, Brown denies that the folks at home are cooling towards the U.S. That would be political speak for “I’m going over to change the whole way we do things and he is going to like it or else.” This should be interesting, no?
