In My Younger Days, The Wild Side
Posted by: From Arkansas in Odds And Ends on Jul 22 2007
Welcome back!
If you saw me now, you would think I lived a couch potato life all those days. Ah but if you thought that, you would be wrong. My earlier days were a bit more wild than that. Oh, I wasn’t doing illegal things…..mostly. I was simply doing what the elders of our families called “Sowing my wild oats.” Yes, I am a boomer. And yes, I was born pre-1950….post war kid.
Wild was not as much as it might be now. I was one of those teens that did think she knew everything. Guess that hasn’t changed for teens over the years. But, I had to try all those things that were available at the time. I did stop at using drugs. I hated taking pills. Want to know what’s ironic? I take 8 pills a day now, not one of them illegal, of course. And after all that avoiding the drugs too. Well, I still think I made that decision right.
Anyway, I did have a few drinks now and then. I used to be a cab driver in those younger days, after the teen years though. That was a time when women did not do that sort of thing very often. We had about 35-40 drivers, three were women. After work, we would all head across the street to the local bar and hop up on the bar stools to get the first brew of the night. I have to say it was fun at the time because as a cab driver, all I had to do was call the dispatch and I got a free ride home. Not bad, huh?
Okay, this is not the wildest thing you’ve ever heard. I get it. But then, I did not promise to tickle your ears or eyes with a lot of dish about my life. Of course, now I’m glad that I didn’t keep that lifestyle up. I drove for about two years or so and quit to do other things. But I look back on those days with a certain fondness.
