Will Our Congress Abandon The Iraqis?

Today, again the anti-war rumble comes out of Washington amid reports of Iraqi government problems. They have not accomplished what the U.S. would like them to do. Unfortunately, the democrats are using that as a platform to bash and bash again. Perhaps if the congress could possibly get on with the business the country sent them in there to do instead of playing these games, it could work out better.

Iraq is an unstable country. No one can argue that. However, IF our troops were pulled out soon as so many people would like, it surely would be devastating to the Iraq government and to those who are counting on us to stay and help them get the government back on it’s feet. This is something that is not likely to happen if we leave as the supposedly far-seeing people who want us to leave before the job is done.

This is yet another warning on this subject. For those of you who were actually alive when we pulled out of Vietnam, you need to remember what happened. First, we left and the North Vietnamese swarmed down out of the north and captured the south, thus destroying any hope the South Vietnamese had of any relief from the tyranny that accompanied the N. Vietnamese takeover. Our standing in the world went to zero since we had that war that wasn’t a war. We QUIT!!! Did you get that? We QUIT! We did not win. We could have. We had the power to do so but it wasn’t politically a good idea. We might get our skirts dirty. Hate to say it but we did that when we went into that war that wasn’t a war.

Now, people who were definitely alive then do not seem to remember what happened. We lost “face” with the world. We diminished in the eyes of those who were afraid of our power. They are no longer afraid of that since we do not back up what we say anyway. We are the “wuss” country. Oh, we do start to get the job done. Then some person in the name of “do-good-ing” decides that this war is wasting too much resource, too many lives are lost.

I do sympathize with those whose family members are gone now. That is truly tragic. However, why did that person join the military in the first place? Do you know? Is it at all possible that they were there to defend our country? To believe in something that is right. To do the right thing?

Throughout our history, our sons and daughters have died defending the freedom of this country. They did it honorably. How can we now turn our backs on those people in that country without feeling something that might resemble a conscience? We cannot leave when the country is so unstable. If we do, the consequences may not be palatable to an American. Do NOT support abandoning that country.
