Dieting–What Kind Do I Do?
Posted by: From Arkansas in My Take on Things on Jul 08 2007
Welcome back!
This question has plagued me for years, frankly. And I have no real answers here either. The best diet is the one that works for you personally. That is something that I believe must be tried out and decided on based on more than a couple of days of any type of diet or change in food intake.
I have been on the liquid diets that the doctors gave me. Not gonna happen again! I happened to be on the road as a trucker when that little gem was given to me. Not only did the doctor not appear to care that I was having difficulty with actually DOING the diet in that situtation, he also did not care that I would be somewhat weak on that as well. As a trucker, you cannot be weak. You must be strong enough to take the long hours and miles of road plus the possibility of having to load or unload the vehicle yourself. BAH!
Then, I have been on the Atkins diet. Not bad, especially if you are wanting to drop your blood pressure and the numbers that come from a blood test. My cholesterol went down. My blood pressure went down. Everything went down….well, except most of the weight. I have to admit that I did not do all the exercise that I should have. That did cost me. Oh and according to the diet and several media “experts”, this diet can be dangerous because of the “ton of lard” that a person has to ingest. Uh no. That is not accurate. You do have some fats that are used but you can moderate that.
The problem I saw with it was that it was simply not getting the weight off like it should have. I did lose 11 lbs. in a week and a half. Then, I sat on a particular weight for a month. I was told that it was a plateau. Actually, if I read the book right, you aren’t supposed to have that type of plateau. Then somebody always says that I did not do the diet right. Not true…well, except for the exercise. Do not get me wrong. I did exercise, just not to the degree I was expected to.
More recently, I have heard about the chemical reaction diet. That one is a puzzle to me. I have no experience with it at all. All I have to go by is that my sister and one of her daughters decided to go on it for the required four days. The recent update says that the niece has lost several lbs. and my sister a few. I do have a doubt or two about that one but then others have had many doubts about the Atkins.
In the long run, the best diet…as I said before, is the one that works best for you. los, it would be in your best interests to check it out with your doctor before starting any diet, especially if you have any type of medical problems at all. For instance, I was diagnosed with diabetes. Not good to try out that last diet program. I was also told not to do the Atkins again with it. There again, it depends on the best one for you. You need to look out for your own health.
