Golf Course Hazards-Normal, Right?
Posted by: From Arkansas in Just Plain Weird on Jul 07 2007
Welcome back!
Okay, my Dad used to go out to the golf course in the mornings before work, sometimes in really goofy weather just to play a round of golf. He loved the game so much. He followed the pros on the tour at the time….Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. A long time ago, right? Yeah. When I watched the golf on TV with him (I was bored out of my mind but my Dad loved it that I watched so I did), one of the things that always was part of the game were the hazards…like sand, water and a nice little deal called the rough. If your ball were to land in any of those, it would be real fun trying to get it out again. Points.
The hazards are sand, water, the rough…….and fire. ACK! Never saw that one coming. Neither did the golfers at a Medford, Oregon, when a grass fire broke out between the sixth and seventh holes on the course. Golfers do take things in stride though. They kept on playing around the “hazard” despite the fact that the smoke could be seen for miles. The fire consumed about 1.5 acres and was soon to catch up to a retirement home next to the golf course.
The firemen were the heros again when they extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes. And the golfers played on.
