How Do You Beat The Heat?
Posted by: From Arkansas in Give Me A Break on Jul 06 2007
Welcome back!
I ask myself, how am I going to beat the heat that is all over the country? First, I’m not all over the country. I live in Arkansas where it is bearable at times. Today, we spent our time in a car on the way to a doctor’s appointment. It was a pleasant drive of over 60 miles except for the heat that seemed to get into our car no matter what we did.
Despite the heat, we did make it to the appointment…..an hour early. I believe in leaving a little ahead of schedule…..but, I do believe I overdid that little gem. The marvelous thing was that when the appointment came along, we were escorted into the exam room. Within 10 minutes, the doc was there. I was sort of shocked. Usually, at a doctor’s office, it takes a couple of hours…..IF you are blessed especially in that particular clinic.
So, assuming we had gotten there on time, we were in and out in about 40 minutes. We did have good news too. It was not a serious problem. We can deal with it carefully. We celebrated and went home. It took another hour and a half.
How did we beat the heat? We didn’t. The car was so hot. Our air conditioner does pretty well in normal circumstances but I believe that we need to get a recharge. It could not handle the heat. BUT, when we got home…..ah, a blessing. Our home air is incredibly good.
It does come to mind that our home air conditioner could actually be spoiling us for any other air conditioner, especially in a car. Sigh.
So, how do you beat the heat? Splash in a pool of ice cubes? Get drenched by the hose? Fall into a huge pool in someone else’s yard while they are on vacation or out getting groceries? Accidently land in the creek? Or simply lounge in the bathtub until you turn into a prune?
All wonderful ideas. I simply sit in our house with the air on. Ain’t life beautiful?
