And The Thunder Rolled

Welcome back!
If you do not have a cat, this story will not be as funny to you. However, we do have a couple of cats and an elderly doggie. She is turning 13 this year. I do digress since this is not about the dog but about the cats.
We have a female cat, age 9, who is not shaken by most things. Oh there was that Walmart bag incident a few years ago but aside from that, she’s fine. Uh, I should tell that? Oh, all right.
At the time, we lived in a house that had a fireplace which was excellent for keeping us warm and burning waste. Very handy. But my husband, when lighting the fire, needed kindling and small leaves to get the thing started. He used to go gather a couple of bags of leaves to have in reserve. One day, the female who was extremely curious then, seemed to have put her head inside the handle of the bag.
It startled her when the leaves rustled. She tore off in a panic, running around and around the house leaving leaves everywhere. When she finally came ot rest, she was under our bed, still in a panic with the bag sitting beside her. She was staring daggers at it. Since then, she does not do well with plastic bags. LOL! We couldn’t stop laughing for about an hour.
Now, the male cat, age 5 but looks like a kitten, is another matter. We can always tell when the weather has turned to a gray day and is about to rain. Oh, I wanted to say that this boy cat was one of several that had been residing in my Mom’s backyard. In those days, she had cats that would not go away. He was particularly cute and fun so we took him. He was probably 3 months old at the time.
One of the cutest things he does is to pick his dry food up by his paws. He serves himself. It’s really cute. Another thing he loves to do is throw his food onto the floor and watch it from on high for a while. If it moves, kill it!!! It usually doesn’t move so he jumps to the floor, bats it around and finally pounces on it. It is so dead. He eats it.
Uh, we did not know one way or the other about his hunting abilities since we rarely have invaders in our house. But, one night while we were all watching TV, he came out from the back of the house with……you are NOT going to guess this!!!!…………….a baby possum in his mouth. It was about 6 inches long. When he had shown off his catch of the day, he took it into the bedroom and hid under the bed. What fun!
And now, to tell on him…yes, I am tattling…..about a cat……….but this is funny. When the weather is changing and the rain is about to begin, it thunders. As that happens, our courageous boy kitty suddenly finds something to do elsewhere and with his belly down to the floor, slinks away to hide under the bed until the dreaded thunder is gone!!!
Happy Cats! This was a 5 kitty story. (that’s a rating)
