Holiday, Attacks Put U.S. On Alert

Posted by: From Arkansas in Political News on Jul 03 2007

Welcome back!

Due to the several attacks in Britain, the U.S. has decided to go on alert to the possibilities of attacks over the holiday as we celebrate the 4th of July, American Independence Day. Armed officers have shown up at bus stops, subways and airports. These are special Transportation Security Administration teams sent out to protect mass transit places over the holiday this year.

These teams were sent out to many of the largest cities in the U.S. They are there not only because of the attacks in England but also due to the holiday itself. Along with the local police in the major cities, these folks are there to be a visible deterrent to possible terrorist activity. The special teams of the agency have conducted 84 “Viper” missions in the last year and a half. Viper stands for “Visible Intermodal Protection and Response.”

The teams include air marshals and their supervisors as well as non-flight scheduled air marshals, Transportation Security teams, surface transportation security officials, local police and canine teams all working for the security of our mass transit systems especially during this holiday season.
